The background elements in this one mesh really well. I always have this problem with the background looking a little off. Too vibrant, maybe. Yours has this sort of soft blueish look that fits just right. How do you do that?
the shadows are dark blue multiply layers. then overlay with light blue overlay/soft light/hard light layers to taste

The smoke was something you wouldn't really think about until you actually see an old musket being used. I read that was part of why they used battle standards too even though they drew bullets like a magnet. Sometimes they were the only way you could tell where the hell your buddies were.
